Description | The SWF format, owned by Adobe, is used for animated vector graphics. This format is versatile, capable of incorporating text and other vector shapes, graphics, or illustrations. |
Technical details | SWF, short for 'Shockwave Flash', was originally designed for use with the Shockwave player. Stored as 8-bit binary data, SWF files are easily accessed. SWF files are displayed by web browsers with the Flash plugin. The most recent version, SWF10, boasts improved text capabilities, including bidirectional text (allowing text to flow right-to-left and left-to-right) and enhanced scripting. This update also enables embedding JPEG images with alpha channel transparency, allowing for transparent or semi-transparent backgrounds and smoother image rendering. |
