DescriptionDigital Audio Tape (DAT) is a format that uses magnetic tape to digitally store audio information. This superior format offers high-fidelity audio recording and playback, ensuring only a minimal loss in sound quality. DAT tapes are not only reliable and durable, but they also boast considerable data storage capacity. This makes them ideal for recording numerous tracks and complex audio mixes. Their compatibility with various professional audio equipment has earned them a popular choice in recording studios and live sound applications.
Technical detailsThe DAT format employs a linear recording process, wherein the audio data is sequentially recorded onto the tape. DAT tapes are available in two durations - 60 and 120 minutes. They allow audio to be captured at sampling rates of 32 kHz, 44.1 kHz, or 48 kHz, with a 16-bit resolution. The recording and reading process of these tapes are managed by a rotating head that magnetically imprints the audio signals.
