The PRC file format is quite similar to the MOBI format used on mobile phones, Palmtop devices, and PC operating systems. However, PRC files are used exclusively for palmtop devices that support PRC or PDB extensions. The Mobipocket Reader program can be used to view PRC files on a PC. Amazon Kindle reading devices can also view eBooks with the .prc extension; so far, the file is not protected; this compatibility is possible because Amazon.com acquired Mobipocket.com in 2005. |

Many eBook formats exclude images because of the bandwidth requirement to read such files; however, PRC format optimizes pictures and other elements such that eBook with pictures and other supposedly massive files can be read on low bandwidth devices. |
